Cycling In The Mediterranean Pyrenees From Your Base At La Paloma

For cycling or mountain bike enthusiasts, the Mediterranean Pyrenees are tailor-made for you. The region is heaven for anyone who loves to travel on two wheels.

In the Mediterranean Pyrenees, cycling or mountain biking takes on its true meaning: the scenery is just what you would expect from such an exceptional location. You will see how each valley has a distinctive character, each trail has a personality and each path has its hidden secrets. From flat canal banks to undulating vineyards and steep mountain roads; whatever your style there is something here for you.

The superb quiet local roads and trails offer an unmatched opportunity to ride whatever and however you want to.

Road riders have a fantastic choice of routes suitable for all levels. Beginners can practice in safety on 30 miles of tarmacked railway line starting at La Paloma and ending at the Mediterranean. Intermediates will find plenty of rolling terrain through the vineyards and up down the sides of the valleys. Advanced riders will find climbs that challenge the top riders on the Tour de France.

Mountain bikers are well catered for with a range of options for testing their technical skills. There is a purpose built MTB (VTT in French) course in the village close to La Paloma. Beginners and intermediates can get off the beaten track on to trails through the vineyards or head up to into the mountains. Advanced riders can scale the nearby summits or take the plunge and attempt the Summit to Sea challenge ending at the Mediterranean.

Family cyclists can also enjoy the splendours of the area. Cycling to the local shops and bars is easy and safe. A trip to Amile les Bains for lunch is within the capabilities of most reasonably competent adults and children. The more adventurous can explore the valley in safety on the 30 miles of car free converted railway track from La Paloma to the Mediterranean.
